LAST WEEK...
Each student composed a 6-Word Memoir in which he/she told a life story using only six words. Students had a great time creating these while practicing narrative writing! After creating their memoirs, students reflected on how their memories told a story (using the reflection form). Students also developed vocabulary by connecting to five difficult words in this week’s article. They were given choices as to how they would show their understanding of each word. They finished out the week by responding to the prompt: Tell about a time in your life when you have experienced success. Again, students were to practice narrative writing and include multiple narrative features in their writing.

Week 22: Jan. 23-Jan. 27
LAST WEEK…
Students continued to work on composing text using a variety of sentence structures. They took one of their previous writing assignments and labeled each sentence (simple, compound, complex & compound/complex) using different colored markers. This enabled them to see what sentence structures they are using most often. They then revised those papers to create a better balance of sentence structures (to add variety and interest to their writing).
The weekly writing assignment this week was directly tied to learning goal 6.3 (informative writing). Students scored their papers using the informative writing scoring guide and identified where they incorporated informative features.
WEEKLY WRITING ASSIGNMENT:
Should schools MOSTLY require students to write by hand OR type on computers?
